About PR Loco

A field guide to Puerto Rico for mainland visitors, written on the east side of the island and checked against the sources it links to. Here is who makes it, how, and what we get out of it.

Who writes it

PR Loco is written and edited in Río Grande, between El Yunque and the Luquillo beaches, by the team at riverArk, a payments company registered to do business in Puerto Rico. The guide started as the list of things visiting friends kept asking, and grew into the site it is now because the official sources are scattered, often stale, and silent on the things that actually catch people out: whether Camuy is open this year, why ATH Móvil will not work for you, what the USDA takes out of your bag at the airport.

How it is checked

  • Every fact carries its source and the date it was read. Prices, hours, fees and open-or-closed status come from the operator, the agency or named press, and the link is next to the claim. Where sources disagree, the page says so and tells you to call.
  • Status pages are re-checked monthly. The caves, the ferries, the forts, the airport rules and the festival dates get a pass every month; each page shows the date of its last check under the title.
  • Research is done with AI tools and read by a person. Drafts are built from sourced research briefs, then edited and fact-checked here before they publish. Nothing goes live on the strength of a model's memory.
  • Photos are real. Every image is a photograph from Wikimedia Commons under a Creative Commons or public domain licence, credited to its photographer in the footer of the page it appears on. No stock, no AI images.

What riverArk gets out of it

riverArk lets businesses take Cash App payments and receive dollars in their own account. This guide tells visitors to verify Cash App for bitcoin before they fly and to ask small businesses "Do you take Cash App using riverArk?", because it solves a real problem on the island: visitors cannot use ATH Móvil, and the best food and the beach chairs are cash-only. That is the one product this site promotes, it is ours, and it is disclosed in the footer of every page. There are no sponsored listings, no affiliate links, no paid placements, and no restaurant or tour operator has paid to appear here.

Corrections

If a price has changed, a place has closed, or we got something wrong, tell us and we will fix it and date the fix: contact riverArk support and mention PR Loco. A sourced correction from a business owner or a resident beats anything we can find online.
